Progettato da Pier Luigi Nervi su iniziativa del marchese Luigi Ridolfi da Verrazzano, lo stadio venne inaugurato il 13 settembre 1931 con un'amichevole.

It looks a bit shabby but as I have not been to any other stadion in Italy if Stadio Artemio Franchi is unusually shabby.
